Grand Rapids, MN – Ryan Novak, MD joined the Grand Itasca team on August 12th and is anxious to begin serving patients with urologic concerns. Dr. Novak recently completed his residency program at Ohio State University in the Department of Urology. He graduated summa cum laude with an undergraduate degree in Pharmacy from the University of Minnesota, and then went on to medical school also at the University of Minnesota.
At Ohio State University, Dr. Novak trained with surgeons who covered all major areas of urology including kidney and bladder stone management, enlarged prostate treatment (BPH), urinary complaints, erectile dysfunction, infertility, low testosterone and cancer of the kidneys, bladder and prostate. Additionally, Dr. Novak was trained on a surgical approach that focused on decreased pain for the patient, shorter hospital stays and quick recovery. His pharmacy background will also benefit his patients as he is very empathetic to the high cost of some brand medications and tries to prescribe generic alternatives when available.
Dr. Novak and his wife both grew up in Southern Minnesota and after being away for a couple years realized how much they loved Minnesota and wanted to move back, specifically to Grand Rapids, where Dr. Novak visited for annual 'up north' fishing trips. "Grand Rapids is a community I am already proud to be a part of. I am excited to be back to a town without freeways and parking garages but yet have available to me many of the resources and activities typically available only in bigger cities," say Dr. Novak. With two young children, Dr. Novak and his wife wanted to give them the same small town experience they had growing up.
