Wellness Center is Home to Cardiac Rehabilitation, Diabetes Education, Nutrition Counseling and Respiratory Services.

Our health and wellness center provides the opportunity for individuals to participate in various classes and programs that focus on the improvement of an individual’s health status or development of positive health behaviors. The Center is home to Grand Itasca’s phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, Diabetes Education and Nutrition Counseling.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Educates on Risk Factor Reduction

Cardiac Rehabilitation’s focus is education of patients in cardiac risk factor reduction and cardiovascular conditioning. Patients visit our cardiac rehabilitation program after a diagnosis of myocardial infarction, coronary artery bypass, heart transplant valve replacements, cardiac ballooning or stenting, or stable angina.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Assists with Cardiac Testing

The Cardiac Rehabilitation staff also assists Grand Itasca providers with stress testing to evaluate for coronary artery disease. Tests conducted at Grand Itasca include:

  • Exercise treadmill tests
  • Stress echocardiograms
  • Cardiolite stress tests

Grand Itasca’s Cardiac Rehabilitation area is located in the Wellness Center in the Main lobby of Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital.

  • Cardiac Out-Patient Phase II Rehabilitation gym is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm.

Referrals are necessary for recommended cardiac therapies and a prior consultation with an internist is needed for cardiac testing.

The Wellness Secretary is available to answer any questions you might have or to assist with scheduling.

Cardiac Support Group

A free cardiac support group is held the third Monday of each month. Please check with the Wellness Secretary at 999-1032 to learn of time, topic and location of these valuable group sessions.

Diabetes Self-Management Education Provides Valuable Information to Diabetic Patients and Their Families

The Diabetes Self-Management Education program is located in the Wellness Center in the Main lobby of Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital. The Certified Diabetes Education program follows the American Diabetes Association recommendations and Staged Diabetes Guidelines for persons with Type 1, Type 2 and Gestational Diabetes. A referral from your primary care provider is needed to attend the Diabetes Education program.

Treatment recommendations are made based on the assessed needs of each individual. Treatments recommendations may include:

  • Insulin initiation and adjustments,
  • Glucose meter instruction,
  • Carbohydrate counting and meal planning and;
  • Insulin pump initiation and management.

Individual and group classes are available by appointment. The Wellness Secretary is available to assist with scheduling.

Community Outreach and Diabetes Support Group Provided by Grand Itasca Diabetes Educators

Grand Itasca’s Diabetes educators are also available to provide community outreach programs and educational presentations on Diabetes, it’s prevention and treatment.

A community based Diabetes Support Group is also co-facilitated by staff.

Nutrition Counseling Help Patients Achieve a Healthy Lifestyle

Grand Itasca’s nutrition counseling is provided by a registered dietician who can assist either individuals or groups with practical guidelines and therapeutic interventions that teach us to adopt healthy eating habits for life. A healthy diet can help reduce the risk of disease, prevent complications associated with pre-existing conditions, and increase your energy-as well as your self-image and general sense of well being.

Grand Itasca’s registered dietician not only plays a vital role in assisting with diabetes education, but also provides our community with an educational and training resource for persons that have special dietary needs because of various medical conditions.

In addition to these programs, Grand Itasca’s registered dietician offers wellness seminars for community and professional groups.

Nutrition counseling may qualify for reimbursement under Medicare, Medicaid, and some insurance plans. If you have questions, regarding reimbursement for nutrition counseling, please check with your insurance company to determine if your visit will be paid for.

Persons with Respiratory Diseases Benefit from Programs Provided by Grand Itasca’s Respiratory Services

Patients with chronic lung disease such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, or restrictive pulmonary and occupation or environmental lung diseases can often benefit from early intervention through our Respiratory Services programs.

Respiratory Therapists in Grand Itasca’s Respiratory Services Department, teach patients to better manage their respiratory diseases through physical conditioning, medication management, and recommended nutritional guidance.

Outpatient services also include pulmonary function testing, Holter and event monitoring, and EEGs. Outpatient services also include personal education plans, time and energy conservation, and physical exercise.
