Grand Rapids, MN – Burggraf’s Ace Hardware, in partnership with Grand Itasca Foundation, is hosting the 4th Annual Caring Fore Kids Charity Classic set for June 1st at Pokegama Golf Course. The casual, 9-hole golf scramble was established to highlight the impact that local fundraising can have on local health care. Since its inception in 2014, Caring Fore Kids has funded over $100,000 in projects, programs and equipment that directly expand, develop and enhance pediatric care for kids at Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital.

"We are so proud to be a partner in this wonderful fundraiser," said Kelly Kirwin, Director of Grand Itasca Foundation. "Caring Fore Kids has been critical in enabling our pediatric care teams to invest in the tools and programs they need to provide a high-level of pediatric care for kids in our community." This event has allowed Grand Itasca Foundation to fund several pieces of new equipment for our physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy departments; along with our surgery department, women's health and birth department and numerous projects in our clinic.

"We treat many of our pediatric clients over a span of months, sometimes years. It is imperative that we have a vast array of equipment, programming and activities to keep our sessions fun yet challenging, and our pediatric patients interested and engaged. Caring Fore Kids dollars have met that need, and then some! Our pediatric therapy team is extremely thankful to the Burggraf family and Grand Itasca Foundation for sponsoring this annual event," said Angie Gunderson, Occupational Therapist at Grand Itasca.

Nationwide, Ace Hardware has a tradition of supporting their communities with a special focus on raising money for kids and health care by supporting the Children's Miracle Network hospitals. Steve Burggraf and his family wanted to continue the Ace tradition, but have chosen to keep their fundraising dollars local at Grand Itasca. The Burggraf family has set a goal to raise $75,000 for Grand Itasca kids in 2017! "A $75,000 goal is a tall order for 2017, but this work is very important and we want all of our kids to have access to high-quality care, so our committee and the community is stepping up to the challenge," said Steve Burggraf, owner of Burggraf's Ace Hardware in Grand Rapids.

"One of the highlights of our event is our 'All-Star' kids," said Burggraf, "And we are excited to announce that the kids will attend our event again this year! Each year, we highlight kids who are directly benefitting from our fundraising efforts. The kids are why we do what we do and they are what makes this event so unique and special."

"An additional highlight to our event is that our 'All-Stars' work together prior to the event to personally create a piece of artwork that we then auction off at the reception during the event," said Burggraf. "If you are not able to join us in the afternoon for golf, please join us for dinner and the reception to meet the kids and bid on some of their items on display at our silent and live auction."

Annually, the Caring Fore Kids fund purchases coloring books that are offered at registration to help keep kids busy while they wait for their appointment. Grand Itasca teddy bears are also funded annually by Caring Fore Kids dollars to help comfort pediatric patients when they are scared or in pain. In 2016, Caring Fore Kids funded a pediatric surgery video titled "What to expect when you come for surgery" for patients and families to watch prior to a procedure at Grand Itasca. Funds also purchased a new infant warmer for all babies delivered at Grand Itasca and a new rocking chair for mom and baby in the hospital nursery.

The 4th Annual Burggraf's Ace Hardware Caring Fore Kids Charity Classic will take place on Thursday, June 1st at Pokegama Golf Course.
