Grand Rapids, MN - Burggraf’s Ace Hardware of Grand Rapids is set to host their 6th Annual Caring Fore Kids Charity Classic on June 6th at Pokegama Golf Course. The casual, 9-hole golf scramble and reception was established to highlight the impact that local fundraising can have on local health care. Since its inception in 2014, Caring Fore Kids has funded over $244,000 worth of new projects, programs and equipment that has directly expanded, developed and enhanced pediatric care at Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital.

“This event has a major impact on local health care for kids thanks to the incredible generosity from our community. We are proud to be a part of this,” says Steve Burggraf of Burggraf’s Ace Hardware. Community members and businesses can sponsor the event, join us for golf or just come out for dinner after golf. “No matter you wish to participate, this event is so special because the kids who directly benefit from our fundraising dollars are at the event. The kids, their therapists, and their doctors are on the golf course with you. It has been very special for my wife, Amber, and I to get to know these kids and their families. They sincerely appreciate the difference we are making in the care that they receive at Grand Itasca.”

Nationwide, Ace Hardware has a tradition of supporting their communities with a special focus on raising money for pediatric health care through the Children’s Miracle Network. In 2014, Steve Burggraf and his family wanted to continue the Ace tradition, but chose to keep their fundraising dollars local at Grand Itasca. “For us, we felt we could have a larger impact by keeping our fundraising dollars local, so we work with Grand Itasca Foundation and Grand Itasca to continually invest in projects and equipment that goes a long way in helping kids in our community, and ensuring that they can stay close to home for their care.” says Burggraf.

“We are honored to partner with the Burggraf family on this wonderful event,” says Kelly Kirwin, Grand Itasca Foundation director. “The Caring Fore Kids event plays a major role in what we can fund annually at Grand Itasca. The Burggraf’s Caring Fore Kids Fund has supported Grand Itasca in so many ways, ranging from lifesaving equipment in our birthing suites to toys in our patient rooms and lobbies and teddy bears that enhance and improve the patient experience.”

“This event is an amazing example of what a small community can do when people come together. The event is a success because of the hard work from the Burggraf family and Grand Itasca Foundation, the sponsors and event participants who return year after year, and the inspiring pediatric All-Stars and their families,” says Grand Itasca’s April Randall., PTA.

“What we purchase for Grand Itasca with Caring Fore Kids dollars shows our support for the staff who care for these kids every day,” says Burggraf. “These are the people that can make such a huge difference in kids’ lives, if we continue to invest in the tools that they need to succeed.”

“Treating pediatric patients long term takes creativity and constantly varied activities to keep their interest and make things fun. As therapists, there is always something new we can learn to help these kids reach their potential. The Burggraf’s Caring Fore Kids Fund has allowed us to obtain equipment that we normally would have had to borrow. Our team was also able to take classes to learn new skills to apply in our therapy sessions with these kids. Keeping current with our training and equipment in a rural setting is difficult, but thanks to the Burggraf family and Grand Itasca Foundation, we now have all of the right tools to care for our patients and that’s an amazing thing,” says Grand Itasca’s Christy Lasky, PT.

The Burggraf family set a goal to raise $95,000 the 2019 Caring Fore Kids event! The 6th Annual Burggraf’s Ace Hardware Caring Fore Kids Charity Classic will take place on Thursday, June 6th at Pokegama Golf Course.
