Grand Rapids MN–  Grand Itasca Foundation and Itasca Hospice Foundation are jointly sponsoring two workshops on end-of-life care in late September. The featured speaker at the scheduled workshops on September 26 and September 27 is Barbara Karnes, RN, an award winning hospice nurse and nationally prominent speaker on the dynamics of dying.

Ms. Karnes is also well-known for her 1986 book, Gone From My Sight: The Dying Experience.  This book has often been called, “The Hospice Blue Book”, and is often used by caregivers, professionals and laypersons as the primary resource on the signs of approaching death and dying. Her experience as an end-of-life educator is predicated on 30 years of being involved in the bedside care of thousands of terminally ill people in the months, weeks, and minutes before death.

Today she fulfills her passion for end-of-life education through writing and speaking to the community and providing lectures across the country.

The public is invited to attend either of the End-of-Life Care Workshops scheduled for Wednesday, September 26, or Thursday, September 27 at the Reif Center.  The workshops are scheduled to begin at 9:00am and end at 4:00pm each day.
