Grand Rapids, MN – Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in ultrasound as the result of an extensive review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Ultrasound imaging, also known as sonography, uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of internal body parts to help providers diagnose illness, injury, or other medical problems.

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards, following a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. The highest levels of image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs must be met in order for the facility to receive the accreditation.

“Our team is thrilled to received this accreditation from the ACR as it means that we are providing the gold standard in care to our patients. The lead for this project was Libby Benton, RDMS, but everyone on the team played an important part in the application for the accreditation, submitting images they took to be scrutinized by the ACR physicians and physicists. We’re very proud of this accomplishment and to be providing the best care possible to our patients,” says Jeanette Olson, Radiology Manager.
