Grand Itasca Foundation and Volunteer Services awards $15,500 in Scholarships to Area Students

Grand Rapids, MN - Grand Itasca Foundation and Grand Itasca Volunteer Services awarded $15,500 to area high school graduates as well as college and non-traditional students pursuing an education in a health science field.  

 

 

Grand Rapids, MN -This year, Grand Itasca Foundation and Grand Itasca Volunteer Services awarded $15,500 to area high school graduates as well as college and non-traditional students pursuing an education in a health science field. 

A reception for all recipients and their families was held on Friday, June 8th at Grand Itasca.  Mrs. Donna Kelly, scholarship donor and Grand Itasca Foundation Board Member, presented the $1,000 Dr. and Mrs. Robert Kelly scholarship awards to Tara Anttila and Willow Loney.  Dr. Robert and Mrs. Donna Kelly established their scholarship in 1998 to give-back to our community and to enhance our health care system.  This educational investment is awarded to non-traditional students who have returned to school and are pursuing a degree in a health science field. Grand Itasca Foundation is proud to be the recipient and administrator of the Dr. and Mrs. Robert Kelly Scholarship.

Grand Itasca Foundation also awarded four $1,500 high school scholarships to graduating seniors pursuing an education in a health science field.  The 2012 recipients include: Daniel McGuire, Grand Rapids High School; Jordan Peratalo, Nashwauk-Keewatin High School; Karley Petersen, Grand Rapids High School; and Matt Soderberg, Grand Rapids High School.   

Grand Itasca Volunteer Services (GIVS) Scholarship Chair, Nancy Quist, presented five, $1,500 GIVS scholarships to this year’s recipients: Arie DeGrio, Alana Jackson, Sarah Majerus, Katherine Mondry and Annika VandenEinde.

Volunteer Services at Grand Itasca has donated over $140,000 in scholarships to area students since the inception of their scholarship program in 1983. Funds for scholarships are raised from used book sales at the Grand Itasca Gift Shop, tips at the Coffee Bar and an annual Christmas Bake Sale where all baked goods on sale are provided by the volunteers.
