Grand Rapids, MN – Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital is excited to now be offering an Occupational Medicine program for local businesses and their employees. Dr. Jay Sonder has also recently joined Grand Itasca as the Occupational Medicine program director. Sonder received his bachelor degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb. and attended Palmer College of Chiropractic for his doctorate degree.

Sonder is joining the Grand Itasca medical staff after 18 years in private practice. He grew up in Verdigre, Neb. and moved to the Grand Rapids area to open his practice after completing his schooling. Sonder's family is made up of his wife, Kate, a Public Health nurse, daughter, Emily (13), and son, Jack (12).

"I have great respect for the Grand Itasca medical staff as they worked so well with me and my team when I was in private practice. I am proud to be joining them as the Occupational Medicine program director," says Sonder. "In a community our size, with the number of small and large businesses we have, this program will be of great benefit. We will help to alleviate some of the financial burden caused by occupational related diseases, and help to create healthier places of work."

To start, the Occupational Medicine program will offer workers compensation injury examinations and re-evaluations, pre-employment physicals, return-to-work physicals, functional capacities evaluations, Department of Transportation (DOT) physicals, executive health physicals, independent insurance physical exams, isokinetic strength testing, drug testing, spirometry and work-site evaluations.
