Grand Rapids, MN - Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital is proud to share that it received an ‘A’ from the Leapfrog Group as part of their Spring 2019 Hospital Safety Grade. The designation recognizes Grand Itasca’s efforts in protecting patients from harm and providing the highest level of safety in health care.

The Leapfrog Group uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. Grades are assigned to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.

In addition, Grand Itasca recently earned a four-star rating in overall hospital quality from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). In addition to Grand Itasca, six other hospitals in the Fairview system received four- or five-star ratings from CMS. The 4-star rating means that this hospital is rated in the top 30% of hospitals nation-wide.

The CMS rating system is based on 57 publicly reported quality measures across performance areas such as patient experience, safety of care, readmission, and effectiveness of care. CMS evaluates more than 4,000 hospitals nationwide to help patients compare them.

“Our top safety grade and 4-star quality rating further affirm our team’s commitment to the highest level of care for our patients,” says Jean MacDonell, Interim President, Grand Itasca. “I commend our staff for their hard work in providing our patients with continued excellent care."
