The CDP is operated by the United States Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and is the only federally chartered Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) training facility in the nation. Responders participating in CDP training gain critical skills and confidence to respond effectively to local incidents or potential WMD events.

The CDP opened its doors In June 1998 as a training center for the nation’s emergency responders, offering more than 40 training courses focusing on incident management, mass casualty response, and emergency response to a catastrophic natural disaster or terrorist act.

“This training taught us best practices for disaster preparedness. We are now able to go back to our organizations and prepare for a real disaster,” says Grand Itasca Day Surgery/PACU Charge Nurse, Jessica Schmitz, RN. Tyler Waller, PharmD, continues, “we will use the information learned at this training to structure our Emergency Preparedness Plan, which will ensure our organization is ready to act in the event of an emergency in our community.”
