Grand Rapids, MN – In 2017, Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital underwent a major remodel, which included a new cancer clinic and infusion center, and a remodeled gift shop, located just inside the main clinic doors. The gift shop, Grand Gifts, which is owned and operated by Grand Itasca Volunteer Services (GIVS), opened its doors in November of 2017.

In its first year in the new space, Grand Gifts has generated 47% more revenue for GIVS, and the organization has added almost 20 new volunteers. “We certainly feel that our new space plays a major role in recruiting new volunteers to our organization and is certainly to thank for our increased revenues," says Laura Carey, Volunteer Coordinator at Grand Itasca. “We have a long-standing tradition of being a successful gift shop at Grand Itasca. And now, with the benefit of our new space, our gift shop committee has been able to significantly expand the merchandise inventory. Our volunteers, patients and staff are all so happy with the new selections available to them."

In celebration of its one-year anniversary, Grand Gifts will be offering extended weekday and weekend hours for holiday shopping. It will be open Saturdays, November 17th, December 1st and December 15th from 10am-2pm. Also, the week of December 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th, Grand Gifts will stay open until 6pm. Regular gift shop hours are Monday through Friday, 9am–4pm.

Everyone is invited to stop in and shop and it’s all for a good cause. All proceeds from Grand Gifts benefit projects at Grand Itasca and scholarships for local students. GIVS is a non-profit organization that exists to provide dedicated volunteer service to patients, visitors and staff at Grand Itasca. In addition to their service work, GIVS made a $30,000 gift to the Close to Home capital campaign that brought the new cancer clinic and infusion center to Grand Itasca. On an annual basis, the volunteers fund over $7,000 in service projects at Grand Itasca including Reach Out & Read books in the clinic for all well-child visits, fleece blankets for pediatric patients and personal care kits for patient care areas. GIVS also administers and distributes $7,500 in scholarships to students in our community.

“We are always looking for new volunteers and new ideas for all that we do for patients and staff at Grand Itasca," says Carey. “We are a great organization for someone to share their time and talents with."
