Grand Rapids, MN - Grand Itasca will again offer sports physicals to area athletes at a reduced rate. The cost of the exam will be $49 if the exam is conducted during the scheduled sports physical nights on July 17, 18, 19, 24, 25 & 26 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm nightly.

Students receiving a sports physical on these nights will receive a complete sports physical exam by a Grand Itasca care provider.

In Minnesota, all students who are in 5th – 12th grades and participate in school sports, must have a sports physical every three years. They must complete a health questionnaire on the off years to determine if there are any significant changes in their health condition. Although the requirements specify that student athletes only need an exam every three years, parents are encouraged to schedule annual physical exams for their child. Annual exams benefit all children, even those who don’t participate in sports. An exam ensures that the child is current on their immunizations, and it allows the student athlete’s physician to determine if there are other health concerns present.

“Educating your athlete about proper conditioning, strengthening, injury prevention and lifestyle choices are a vital part of the sports physical. Summer is a great time to get your child’s sports physicals completed,” said Dan Soular, MD – Family Medicine, Grand Itasca. “This will allow plenty of time to address any issues that are found during the visit, and will ensure that your child can be at their peak health prior to their activity.”

Students should bring completed physical forms. Forms are available at area schools or online at Minnesota High School League website www.mshsl.org. These exams are limited to pre-participation evaluations only and have the sole purpose of clearing athletes for school activities. There will be an additional charge for any immunizations or lab work.
