Grand Rapids, MN – Burggraf's Ace Hardware of Grand Rapids is set to host their 5th Annual Caring Fore Kids Charity Classic on June 7th at Pokegama Golf Course. The casual, 9-hole golf scramble and reception was established to highlight the impact that local fundraising can have on local health care. Since its inception in 2014, Caring Fore Kids has funded over $160,000 worth of projects, programs and equipment that directly expands, develops and enhances pediatric care for kids at Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital.

"This event is a lot of fun! Whether you come out to play golf or just join us for dinner, this event is very special because the kids who directly benefit from our fundraising are at the event. The kids, their therapists, and their doctors are on the golf course with you and at the reception meeting our sponsors, friends and business partners who are there to support them," says Steve Burggraf of Burggraf's Ace Hardware. "This event has evolved into exactly what we envisioned when we originally put this idea together 5 years ago."

Nationwide, Ace Hardware has a tradition of supporting their communities with a special focus on raising money for health care for kids through the Children's Miracle Network hospitals. In 2014, Steve Burggraf and his family wanted to continue the Ace tradition, but chose to keep their fundraising dollars local at Grand Itasca. "For us, we felt we could have a larger impact by keeping our fundraising dollars local, so we work with Grand Itasca Foundation and Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital to continually invest in projects and equipment that can help kids in our community." says Burggraf.

"We are honored to partner with the Burggraf family on this wonderful fundraiser," says Kelly Kirwin, Foundation Director at Grand Itasca. "Caring Fore Kids has been critical, as it allows our staff access to funding to invest in tools and programs needed to provide the highest level of care for kids in our community. The Burggraf's Caring Fore Kids Fund has supported Grand Itasca in a variety of ways, ranging from lifesaving equipment in our birthing suites that impact all new babies born at Grand Itasca to patient room toys and decals that enhance and improve the patient experience."

"The quality of care at Grand Itasca is exceptional and now this fundraiser can help support the people who care for our kids," says Burggraf. "What we purchase for Grand Itasca with Caring Fore Kids dollars shows our support for the staff who care for these kids. These are the people that can make a difference in these kids' lives if we continue to invest in what they need at the clinic and hospital."

"We treat some of our pediatric patients for months, sometimes years. It is imperative that we have a vast array of equipment, programming and activities to keep our sessions fun yet challenging, and our pediatric patients interested and engaged. Caring Fore Kids dollars have met that need, and then some!," says Angie Gunderson, Occupational Therapist at Grand Itasca. "Our pediatric therapy team is extremely thankful to the Burggraf family and Grand Itasca Foundation for sponsoring this annual event."

"Time flies when you're having fun!" says Burggraf. "We put a lot of time and effort in to making this an enjoyable day for all of our participants and we cannot thank everyone enough for how successful this event has been in the first four years. We want to thank everyone for all that they do for the Caring Fore Kids Fund at Grand Itasca and our goal is to continue this tradition. We truly see that we are making an impact at Grand Itasca and we want our sponsors, golfers and All-Star kids to continue to have a ton of fun with us."

The Burggraf family set a goal to raise $80,000 for Grand Itasca kids in 2018! The 5th Annual Burggraf's Ace Hardware Caring Fore Kids Charity Classic will take place on Thursday, June 7th at Pokegama Golf Course.
