Celebrating Our Outstanding Nurses: The DAISY Awards at Grand Itasca
Every day, our nurses provide exceptional care, compassion, and comfort to patients and families when they need it most. Their dedication extends beyond clinical expertise. It is reflected in the kindness they show, the relationships they build, and the difference they make in the lives of those they serve.
The stories shared through this year's DAISY Award nominations remind us that extraordinary nursing is often found in the smallest moments of compassion:
"Anytime I tell my birth story, Darcy is always part of it because I am convinced
she is an angel who was sent to us in our biggest time of need."
“Colleen rearranged her evening to ensure a patient received
the care they needed when they needed it most."
"When my grandfather was at his sickest, Zach recognized that
it wasn't just the patient who needed care, it was our entire family."
The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses was created to recognize nurses who consistently go above and beyond in delivering compassionate, skillful care. Established by the DAISY Foundation in 1999, the award honors the memory of Patrick Barnes, whose family was inspired to create the foundation after experiencing the extraordinary compassion of the nurses who cared for him during his illness. Today, the DAISY Award celebrates nurses around the world whose commitment leaves a lasting impact on patients, families, and colleagues.
Throughout the year, patients, family members, coworkers, and community members have the opportunity to nominate Grand Itasca nurses for the DAISY Award. This year, we received an incredible 126 heartfelt nominations, each sharing stories of compassion, professionalism, and exceptional care. Every nomination reflects the remarkable work our nursing team provides each day.
Each quarter, a committee carefully reviews the nominations and selects a group of honorees. At the end of the year, those quarterly recipients are considered to determine our top three DAISY finalists.
We are honored to recognize this year's three DAISY Award finalists and celebrate the extraordinary difference they make for our patients, their families, and our community.
