Imaging (Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging)
Thanks to Grand Itasca’s trusted providers and convenient access to the latest, innovative imaging technologies, you can have confidence that we have a clear picture of your diagnosis and treatment options.
Our experienced radiologists have the advanced skills, knowledge, and experience to provide you with a full spectrum of diagnostic imaging services. These include CT (Computed Tomography), MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), Ultra-High Field MRI, Ultrasound, X-ray, radiography, fluoroscopy, mammography, PET/CT, nuclear medicine and bone densitometry (DEXA).
Grand Itasca can offer on-site access to virtually any diagnostic imaging or testing that providers are requesting. Additionally, due to our affiliation with M Health Fairview, we can often supply the exact protocols or sequences of images that patients would get if they took the four-hour drive to the Twin Cities. That means our patients can save time and expense, without sacrificing any information that doctors and sub-specialists need to make the best treatment decisions.

Mammography is considered a valuable tool in the fight against breast cancer, the second leading cause of cancer death in women. Grand Itasca offers digital 3D mammography, a safe, low-dose x-ray picture of your breasts that aids in early detection of breast cancer. Mammography can detect tumors in the breast long before they can be felt. We follow the American Cancer Society’s recommended guidelines of yearly mammograms for women who are age 40 and older.
Grand Itasca offers a comprehensive breast health program with screening and diagnostic digital mammography as our foundation. Specialty views and breast ultrasound are often used to study abnormal areas of your breast. If a biopsy is recommended, we have the tools available to best suit your needs, such as ultrasound-guided breast biopsy, MRI-guided breast biopsy or stereotactic biopsy.
A bone density (DEXA) scan is a means of measuring bone mineral density. A DEXA scan is typically used to diagnose and follow osteoporosis, a disease that causes bones to become brittle and prone to fracture.
A computerized tomography (CT) scan uses X-rays to study the internal organs, bones, soft tissue, and blood vessels of the body. This type of scanning combines specialized X-ray and computer equipment to produce multiple images in different planes of the inside of your body. CT scanning is rapid and painless and allows the Radiologist to see the location, nature, and extent of many different abnormalities and diseases.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a test that uses a powerful magnet with an advanced computer system and radio waves to produce detailed pictures of organs and tissues inside your body. MRI is used to diagnose a variety of medical conditions, such as tumors, bleeding, injury or infection.
Diagnostic Therapeutic Injections (DTI) and pain management procedures are performed at Grand Itasca for the diagnosis and treatment of pain in all areas of your spine, as well as for joints such as the hip or shoulder. These procedures use an image-guided approach to ensure your injection is accurate and safe.
Cardiac imaging is a form of medical imaging that provides a more detailed look at the heart and circulatory system. Grand Itasca offers the following cardiac imaging services:
- Coronary Calcium Scoring (CT)
- Cardiac CTA
- Echocardiography
- Nuclear Cardiology
- Vascular Ultrasound
Fluoroscopy is an imaging system that takes real-time moving pictures of the inside of the body. Providers can use it to look for signs and symptoms of a disease or condition. Fluoroscopy is especially helpful for examining the digestive tract. A contrast media is sometimes used to better visualize the area of interest.
Diagnostic ultrasound is a safe, simple, and painless imaging method that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of structures within your body.
A nuclear medicine exam uses a small amount of radioactive material to detect and diagnose disease. Nuclear medicine is often used to image bones and joints, but can also be very helpful to study how an organ is working, such as thyroid, heart or gallbladder.
A general X-ray is a quick, painless test that produces images of a part of your body, such as your chest, hand or foot.
